AN MP and ward councillors in the area where Somaiya Begum lived have expressed their devastation at the news that a body had been found.
A 52-year-old man was re-arrested on suspicion of murder following the discovery near Fitzwilliam Street in Broomfields on Wednesday evening at 7.35pm.
There has been a large-scale police hunt for Miss Begum, since she went missing 12 days ago, with search scenes in the Laisterdyke, Barkerend and Undercliffe areas of Bradford.
Forensic officers can be seen in Fitzwilliam Street today, where a blue police tent has been set up in an industrial area near businesses and warehouses.
Police are also present at addresses on Binnie Street and Thornbury Road again this afternoon.
Miss Begum's neighbours and workers in the area have spoken of their shock and sadness.
Imran Hussain, Labour MP for Bradford East, released a statement in light of today's development.
He said: “This is of course an incredibly sad development that none of us wanted to hear, and my thoughts and prayers go out to Somaiya’s loved ones at this unimaginably difficult and traumatic time.
"This serious investigation is ongoing, and I urge anyone who has any information to get in touch with the police through the non-emergency 101 number as soon as possible.
Bradford Moor Councillors Zafar Iqbal and Riaz Ahmed were both saddened and sent their thoughts and prayers to her family and friends.
Cllr Iqbal said: "My heart is saddened by this loss. Please know how much you will always be loved, deeply and sincerely.
"It is never easy to find the words to express our feelings when there are no words that can fully capture the depth of what we are feeling.
"My thoughts and prayers are with the family at this difficult time."
Cllr Ahmed added: "I am devastated and so is the community. It is really sad to see a young woman lose her life.
"Thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends. It was the last thing we all wanted to hear."
