THE eighth man jailed for raping a vulnerable teenager who was plied with drugs and alcohol brings the total jail terms meted out for the degrading sexual abuse to 90 years.
Today, Usman Sultan, 30, of Lawkholme Lane, Keighley, was imprisoned for 12 years at Bradford Crown Court for raping the child three times in 2009.
The court heard that he was 16 or 17 when he abused her, encouraged on two occasions by other males in the group who laughed and egged him on.
Sultan was the final defendant to be sentenced for raping the teenager who gave evidence in two separate trials last year.
In February and March, seven men received prison sentences totalling 78 years for abusing the girl who the trial judge said had been degraded and humiliated.
- Amjad Hussain, 35, of Keighley, was convicted of three counts of rape and jailed for 12 years.
- Nazir Khan, 30, of Keighley, was jailed for 12 years after being convicted of two counts of rape and given an extended eight-year licence period.
- Kamran Hussain, 29, of Keighley, was jailed for five years after being convicted of a single count of rape.
- Omar Safdar, 30, of Oldham, was jailed for 12 years after being convicted of three counts of rape.
- Imran Sabir, 42, of Keighley was jailed for 12 years after being convicted of two counts of rape.
- Hassan Basharat, 32, of Keighley was jailed for 12 years after being convicted of three counts of rape.
- Barber Hussain, 36, of Bradford was jailed for 13 years after being convicted of seven counts of rape.
Today, Sultan wept in the booth at Leeds Prison as Judge Andrew Hatton said the victim had been groomed with drugs and alcohol and sexually exploited by many men.
Her harrowing victim personal statement spoke of the deep psychological damage inflicted on her.
Sultan will serve two-thirds of the 12 years behind bars before he is freed on licence. He must sign on the sex offender register for the rest of his life.
The police investigation that put the eight men behind bars was described as ‘incredibly sensitive and complex’ by Detective Chief Inspector Alan Weekes of Bradford District Police.
He praised the victim for coming forward and reporting the offences, for her patience while the criminal investigation was ongoing and her courage in giving evidence in court.
“The abuse she endured robbed her of her childhood and I hope seeing all of these men sent to prison for these horrendous offences she was subjected too will allow her to start to look forward to the future,” he said.
