BRADFORD East MP Imran Hussain has welcomed the improvements for road users and pedestrians at a city junction.
The Harrogate Road and New Line Junction Improvement Scheme at Greengates Junction began work in July 2020 following delays from earlier in the year due to the pandemic.
While originally planned to conclude last autumn, long-running delays pushed the completion date back until 2022, with the final electrical work completed last week.
Along with the creation of new road lanes, slip roads and turning points aimed at improving traffic flow, the works have seen an expansion in green spaces around the junction, with new trees planned along with new grass verges and landscaping of the surrounding area.
Mr Hussain said: “As one of the busiest routes in Bradford, Greengates Junction with its long waiting times and traffic jams posed a serious danger to the motorists, cyclists and pedestrians using it, which is why I have long been campaigning for these much-needed improvement works to finally take place.
“With these improvements in place, the junction should be safer and easier to use for both road users and pedestrians, dramatically reducing the severe congestion and risks that it has been notorious for, and I’m glad that despite delays, the works have finally been completed.”
