A BRADFORD-district brass band is set to play on the same stage as some of music’s biggest names at the Glastonbury Festival this weekend.
The Black Dyke Band will perform on the festival’s main Pyramid Stage this Sunday from 11.30am.
It is the second time the band has played at the iconic festival’s main stage after their first appearance in 2017.
Black Dyke Band, which was formed in 1855, will kick off the third and final day’s acts and will be followed by the likes of Elbow, Diana Ross and rapper Kendrick Lamar, who will also be performing on Sunday.
There are further links to the Black Dyke Band and this year’s line-up with Saturday’s headliner Sir Paul McCartney. Black Dyke was the brass band who played on The Beatles’ Yellow Submarine single and played alongside Sir Paul’s other band, Wings.

A total of 35 musicians from Black Dyke, ranging in ages between 19 and 69, will take to the stage on Sunday. Their 45-minute set will include brass performances of songs from West Side Story, Star Wars, James Bond, The Beatles’ Hey Jude and Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody.
The Queensbury-based brass band has been invited to perform at the festival again, joining a select group of the most famous rock and roll bands and performers from around the world who have played the stage at the eagerly-anticipated annual festival, which started in 1970.
Black Dyke Band will warm-up for their Glastonbury show with a performance in Bridgwater in Somerset on Saturday. They are also set to battle it out for the top prize at the World Championships in the Netherlands, to be held next month.
Professor Nick Childs, the band’s director of music, says it is a huge buzz to be playing at Glastonbury again.
He said: “It is a ringing endorsement for Queensbury and Bradford that we are playing.
“This is a really special event. We’re really excited about it. Glastonbury is so iconic.
“It’s like a dream. When we played at Glastonbury in 2017 it was unusual to see a brass band perform there.
The Pyramid Stage is the biggest and best stage to play on there
Black Dyke Band’s performance on Sunday will be broadcast live on the BBC iPlayer.
They have previously played at other prestigious venues including Sydney Opera House and New York’s Carnegie Hall.
