Three men have been arrested after a fight left one man with serious chest injuries in Gomersal.
West Yorkshire Police were called out at 12.48am to reports of an incident on Oxford Road, between the junction of Huddersfield Road and Lower Lane.
One man was taken to hospital with a serious chest injury and he is now in a stable condition.
Three men remain in custody, police confirmed.
The road remains closed today, leading to heavy traffic on Gomersal Road both ways from Lower Lane to A62 Leeds Road.
Forensic investigators have cordoned off the road for the rest of the day as enquiries continue.
Oxford Road is also closed between the junction of Huddersfield Road and Lower Lane.
One resident, who described the area as a quiet residential street, said the police cordon was an inconvenience.
He came out at 7.30am on Wednesday morning to find the road was cordoned off. His wife and daughter had to take the long way round to get to work and school.
Kirklees CID has urged anyone with information to contact police by calling 101 or using the LiveChat facility on the West Yorkshire Police website.
The crime reference number is 13220336482.
Information can also be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 or online.
