A SPECIAL event was held in Bradford to mark International Day of Yoga.
The event was organised by the Bradford Hindu Council and was held today (Tuesday) at Leuva Patidar Samaj Community Hall on Legrams Mill Lane in partnership with Patanjali Yog Peeth UK.
The session was aimed at elderly people and was in the form of chair yoga, a gentle practice where postures are performed while seated and/or with the aid of a chair.
Mahesh Mistry, chairman of the Bradford Hindu Council, said: “Today’s yoga event was organised especially for the elders in the community who responded by turning out with 120 plus attendees.
“Dr Max Mclean Chairman of the Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was the guest of honour and also participated in the yoga exercises.
“Yoga is a great activity for the health and mind and today’s event demonstrated yoga can be for all age groups and abilities.”
Drmmmm Mclean said: 'It was my pleasure to have been invited to join the Bradford Hindu Council as guest of honour for the International Yoga day event.
"I spoke of our desire at Bradford Teaching Hospitals to place patients at the centre of everything we do and for all health and care partners to provide joined up services.
"We want people to be happy, healthy and, wherever possible, to be home.
The yoga session was fantastic - a great example of something all people can do to give themselves the best chance of good health. It was great fun to participate and I really learnt a great deal about exercise and spiritual wellbeing."
