A police operation to tackle dangerous, illegal and anti-social use of vehicles in Bradford saw nearly 40 traffic offences reported.

Special Constables who work across the district joined the Operation Steerside Enforcement Team to mark National Specials and Volunteers week. 

The day of action on Saturday, June 18, saw 39 traffic offence reports submitted for a range of offences - including not wearing a seatbelt, no insurance and use of a mobile phone behind the wheel. 

The DVSA issued five notices for a range of vehicle defects. 

11 vehicles were seized for offences including no insurance, no licence while one section 59 warning for anti-social vehicle use was handed out.

Acting Sergeant Emma Moses said: “It was great to showcase the work of the Special Constabulary through this day of action with the Steerside team. 

“The specials played a huge part in the day and this shows through the positive results from the operation.”

It comes amid a new recruitment drive for new special constables.

There are currently 220 special constables working across West Yorkshire Police.
