A beach party had the crowds flocking to Heaven nightclub and wine bar in July 1992 for a taste of summer fun.
As part of the club’s first birthday celebrations, admission was free for those brave enough to come along in their swimsuits or beach shorts.
According to club manager Donna Kellaway, more nights like this would be added to attract an older crowd.
A popular attraction for clubbers was acquisition of DJ Joseph Conteh – formerly of Stringfellows in London.
Thursdays were rave nights at Heaven with three DJs in attendance, and bitter and lager on sale at 95p a pint from 8 pm – 2 am. On Friday and Saturday nights, customers could also enjoy an extended “happy hour” from 5 pm – 7.30 pm, including free food.
