The BAME business community was out celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in full force after the City of Culture announcement was made.
An event was organised by local BAME businesses, which was supported by the West & North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce, celebrating 70 years of the Queen as well as the City of Culture bid and the first-generation immigrants who came to Bradford for a better life.
Nasreen Karim, Chair of the BAME Business Committee, said: “As one of the organisers of the jubilee event, I was humbled by the level of participation we received from the local business community.
“It was important for us as a community to celebrate Her Majesty’s Jubilee by honouring her and by celebrating our parent’s sacrifices who as citizens of the commonwealth, left their lives behind and emigrated to the UK.
“As a result of this, we as a community have flourished and of course, we were celebrating winning the City of Culture bid.
“It was a night of feasting, having fun, celebrating, and honouring.”
The celebration was held at Aagrah Midpoint, Pudsey on Wednesday, June 1.
The Great British Menu was catered for by Aagrah, consisting of fish and chips as a starter, curries for mains, and locally-sourced scones for dessert.
The event was described as ‘warm’ and ‘engaging’ by those who attended.
On the evening, James Mason, Chief Executive officer of The West & North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce, attended, as well as Victoria Wainwright President of the Bradford Chamber of Commerce, Mark Briffett, President of the York Chamber of Commerce and Laurence Beardmore. President, York & North Yorkshire Chamber.
Bishop Toby attended the event and spoke to the guests, along with other religious and faith leaders.
The event was organised by Nasreen Karim, Saleem Kader and Asma Iqbal.
