A VACANT site off Tong Street can undergo a major redevelopment after plans were given the green light by Bradford Council.
An application to transform the old Travis Perkins builders’ merchant site on Fairfield Street was first revealed last year.
The 5,780 square metre site has remained empty ever since Travis Perkins decided to shut the branch as part of a wave of national closures first announced in 2020.
The application by PH Holdings, was for the existing buildings on the site to be refurbished into state of the art industrial units, as well as the construction of new industrial units on the site.
In total the works would create eight industrial units.
Changes to make multi million pound Tong Street improvements more 'green' are welcomed
The application said the work amount to the “comprehensive and coherent development of a key site near Bradford” and would be “high quality.”
It added: “We have been made aware by local agents that this area has a growing need for commercial units. The work will restore an unused site to economic life.”
The application has now been approved by planning officers, who said it was a good re-use of an existing employment site in the city.
The development is expected to create 16 jobs.
