A CONSERVATION area building could soon be converted into a restaurant if new plans are approved.

650 Great Horton Road had previously been a beauty salon, but in recent years the ground floor unit has been converted into a flat – apparently without planning permission.

That work included the destruction of the shop front.

But now a new planning application, submitted to Bradford Council by M Shabir, calls for this frontage to be re-instated, and for the unit to become a restaurant and take away.

Flats on the first and second floor would be refurbished under the plans.

The unit is next to the former Kings Arms pub, which has also been recently converted into a restaurant, and lies within the Great Horton Conservation Area.

The application says: “The ground floor appears to have been converted without the benefit of planning by the previous owner.

“The applicant having recently purchased the building seeks to regularise the situation and revert the ground floor back to commercial use and reinstate the shop front.

“The restoration of the shop front affords an opportunity to improve the aspect of the application site.”

A decision on the application is expected next month.
