A school which had been rated as “inadequate” by Inspectors is now on the upward track.
In May, national newspapers ran stories about “the worst secondary schools in England, as rated by Ofsted”.
Their articles named 63 secondary schools which, as of May 2022, Ofsted had rated as “inadequate” using categories of quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development and leadership and management.
One included was Calderdale school Lightcliffe Academy, which is at Stoney Lane, and which had been given the rating at an inspection on November 7, 2018.
But the report did not reference the latest Ofsted full inspection report on the school which upgrades the rating.
It is on the right track, although it still “requires improvement” according to inspectors.
Six monitoring visits offering more guidance and feedback were undertaken by Ofsted between the 2018 inspection and the most recent full inspection which was carried out on March 16 and 17 this year.
The latest report says that “after a period of instability, Lightcliffe Academy is no longer an inadequate school.
“Pupils’ experiences at the school have improved since the previous full inspection.
“Leaders have a handle on school improvement.
“However, there remains more to be done.”
