A MAN is awaiting a psychiatric assessment after setting fire to his sheltered accommodation in Bradford.
Shahnawaz Ali today pleaded guilty to arson being reckless as to whether life would be endangered at his flat in Hazelhurst Court, Leeds Road.
Ali, 59, admitted damaging by fire a sofa at the address on February 17.
He appeared before Bradford Crown Court on a video link to Leeds Prison where he is currently being held.
His barrister, Rebecca Young, said he was awaiting a bed at a hospital so that a full psychiatric assessment could be carried out.
Judge Ahmed Nadim adjourned the case until June 29 in the expectation that a bed would have become available by then.
