THERE are huge delays on a motorway this afternoon due to a crash and roadworks.
The traffic issues are on the M62, with the crash happening on the westbound carriageway and the construction works taking place on the opposite side.
The crash happened near junction 23 (Huddersfield).
It was first reported at 12.38pm, according to the AA.
Traffic was held for more than an hour due to lane three (of three) being blocked.
Vehicles were released at around 1.45pm when the crash was moved to the hard shoulder.
Queues are still stretching back to junction 24 (Ainley Top) though.
Meanwhile there are even longer delays on the eastbound carriageway due to the ongoing improvement works.
Congestion is building from junction 26 (M606, Chain Bar) and junction 27 (M621, Gildersome) and junction 24 (Ainley Top).
This is adding an extra 35 minutes onto normal journey times.
The roadworks are taking place near junction 27 (M621, Gildersome), with the central reservation safety barrier being upgraded from steel to concrete.
This has meant lanes have been narrowed on both the eastbound and westbound carriageways in the construction area, to protect the workforce.
Lane four of the eastbound carriageway is also closed and with a 50mph speed limit in the area.
