THIS 1980 image may jog a few memories for some of our readers.
Pictured is the Cosy Cinema, Wibsey, one of the many smaller picture houses across the district, providing entertainment for all ages, all within walking distance from one’s home.
By the time this picture was taken, the Cosy Cinema on the south side of Fair Road, which opened on May 15, 1930, and closed in March 1961, had been purchased by the Co-operative Society and earmarked for demolition.
The introduction of television sets into Britain's homes during the 50s had left many of the smaller picture houses redundant, only to be turned into bingo halls, clubs, or in this case, a supermarket.
