A BRADFORD man has been fined after dodging a rail fare while travelling between Blackburn and Manchester.
Asim Ali, 21, of Great Horton Road, Bradford travelled with an invalid train ticket, using a senior discount.
On December 27 last year, Ali made a journey between Blackburn and Manchester Piccadilly but when asked to produce a ticket he showed an off-peak day return with a senior railcard discount.
When asked to produce the railcard he advised he had mistakenly pressed the railcard on the app when purchasing his ticket.
His details were obtained, and he was advised the facts would be reported.
The defendant walked off saying keep your receipt.
"Following the incident a letter was sent to the defendant requesting an explanation, as there was no response, a Fixed Penalty Notice was then sent," court documents state.
"However this remains unpaid."
The offence was proved in his absence and Ali was ordered to pay a fine of £220, compensation of £11.70, a surcharge to fund victim services of £34, and costs of £150.
In total, he was ordered to pay £415.70, which must be paid by June 10, 2022.
