A BRADFORD charity is leading a series of walking challenges to raise money for cancer patients – the first of which will see participants take on England’s tallest mountain this weekend.
The Imran Khan Cancer Appeal (IKCA) is encouraging people of all ages to tackle Cumbria’s Scafell Pike on Sunday.
Around 40 people have already signed up for the walk, which will support patients at the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospitals in Lahore and Peshawar, Pakistan.
They are the only two specialist cancer hospitals in Pakistan, a country where people do not have the same access to healthcare.
“We have the NHS, but in countries like Pakistan, cancer patients don’t have many options if they don’t have money,” said Ikhlaq Ahmad, IKCA Manager.
“It doesn’t matter whether patients are in the UK, Pakistan or any other country – humanity has no boundaries.”
IKCA has organised a walk at Mount Snowdon on June 25, Ben Nevis on July 23, the Three Peaks on August 6 and a walk for breast cancer awareness in Bradford in October.
“We encourage people to get out and lead a healthy and active lifestyle,” Ikhlaq added.
Shafiq Rafiq, Volunteer and Events Coordinator, added that there is “no better reason to get your walking boots on” this weekend.
