A BRADFORD police sergeant has warned of an increase in thefts of two models of car in particular in the district.
Sgt Terri Green has warned owners of Fiat 500s and Ford Transits that they are vulnerable to being stolen.
In her Bingley Rural update email, Sgt Green wrote: “Fiat 500s are vulnerable currently.
“I suspect it is because the cost of them has skyrocketed in the south of the country due to increased demand. They are being chopped up and sold for parts once sold.
“If you own one of these cute vehicles, please look at your security. Maybe park it in a garage.
“Ford Transit vans are also vulnerable. I suspect a skeleton key is being used from information in local areas. Consider a deadbolt or parking it in a secure location.”
Meanwhile, West Yorkshire Police has offered tips to keep your vehicle safe from thieves.
These include owners ensuring cars parked on driveways are in a well-lit area.
When leaving a vehicle always make sure it is fully locked before walking away by checking the door handle.
Do not keep keys to a vehicle in an obvious place and make sure they are fully locked before walking away.
