A PERSON is in hospital with potentially life-changing injuries after a stolen vehicle was involved in a crash on a key Bradford road.

The collision came following a five-minute police pursuit which started on Bradford Road, Idle, in the early hours of this morning.

Five minutes later, the three people in the stolen vehicle were involved in a crash with another vehicle on Canal Road at the junction with Gaisby Lane.

Two occupants of the stolen vehicle - thought to be a food delivery van, carrying milk and eggs - were rushed to hospital, and police are now looking for a person who fled the scene.

The road was closed for several hours, causing long traffic delays on Monday morning.

A police spokesperson said: "At 12.05am today (Monday), officers on patrol on Bradford Road, Idle, sighted a vehicle which had been reported stolen.

"The driver failed to stop for the police and a pursuit was authorised. 

"At 12.10am, the vehicle was involved in a collision with another vehicle on Canal Road, Bradford, at the junction with Gainsby Lane. 

"One occupant of the vehicle made off and enquiries are ongoing to locate this person.

"The other two occupants were taken to hospital. One is being treated for potentially life-changing injuries.

"Police would like to speak to anyone who witnessed this collision or the events surrounding it.

"They would also like to speak to anyone who saw someone, who was potentially injured, in the Canal Road area.

"Information can be passed to police via 101 Live Chat on the West Yorkshire Police website or by calling 101, quoting log 6 of 23 May.

"Due to the prior police contact, a referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct."
