A WOMAN has avoided jail for stealing clothing from the Bradford branch of Primark.
Jamela Hands, 44, of Brooklyn Road, Cleckheaton, was jailed for a total of eight weeks, suspended for 12 months, for two offences.
In the first charge, theft from a shop, she was committed to prison for seven weeks, suspended for 12 months, for stealing clothing, to the value of £41, from Primark, Darley Street, Bradford, on March 23, 2022.
Hands was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £128 for this offence, contrary to the Theft Act 1968.
In the second charge, failing to surrender to police/bail at the appointed time, she failed, without reasonable cause, to surrender to custody at Bradford & Keighley Magistrates’ Court, on April 12, 2022.
For this offence she was committed to prison for one week, to run consecutively, suspended for 12 months.
Hands must comply with the following requirements within the supervision period of 12 months including a Drug Rehabilitation Requirement and have treatment for drug dependency.
A collection order was made and the court will apply for deductions from Hands’ benefit.
Hands pleaded guilty to both charges and was sentenced at Bradford & Keighley Magistrates’ Court on May 16, 2022.
