BRADFORD’S Hindu community has been putting the spotlight on mental health.
In recent months, the Bradford Hindu Council (BHC) has organised many events to bring people together.
It received funding from the Race Equality Network.
The BHC said: “These kinds of events have helped the elderly enormously by giving them something to look forward to, having a good time, talking, laughing, singing, and enjoying each other’s company.
“We also involved the youth via our badminton and cricket sessions.”
BHC also partnered with the National Hindu Students Forum, while the Indian Women’s Community Group UK held a women-only event that included food, singing and dancing.
BHC said: “We also partnered with Andy’s Man Club to bring awareness within the Hindu community about the increase in men’s suicide as a result of mental health issues.”
Meanwhile, the Shree Prajapati Association Bradford has introduced walking clubs and Bhajan sessions, which focus on the singing of devotional songs and hymns
The aim for the BHC was to improve mental health and reduce isolation.
