Teenage girls in Bradford are being asked to shape the future of the nation's parks in a new survey.
Campaigning charity Make Space for Girls is embrking on a mission to change parks and public spaces, claiming outdoor facilities don't work for young girls.
The charity said outdoor facilities for teenagers in the UK are mostly used by boys, leaving girls with nowhere to go.
Make Space for Girls co-founder Susannah Walker said: “Facilities for teenagers almost always means a skate park or fenced pitch, which tend to be dominated by boys.
“This discrimination often goes unnoticed.”
The charity has teamed up with online researchers Commonplace to create an interactive map where girls can comment on how they use Bradford’s parks.
The map, open until the end of May, allows teens - and their parents – to write what they like in local parks, the places they don’t like and what would make them better.
“Teenage girls know every detail of where’s safe to go, and where they don’t feel comfortable,” the co-founder said.
“They are total experts on their local spaces - all we need to do is ask them.”
The results will be shared with the council.
