A FUNDRAISING event to remember the victims of Bradford’s Valley parade fire is taking place at the weekend.
The Shoulder of Mutton pub in Shelf will be hosting a fun day to raise money for Bradford Burns Unit – which was set up following the fire disaster at the Bradford City football club in 1985.
Jim Shepherd, who is a regular at the pub and was at the football ground on the day of the fire, has been helping to set up the event.
He said: “We want to raise money for Bradford Burns Unit because it helped so many people after the Valley Parade fire. It will be an all day event and will start from 11 o’clock and go on into the evening and we're expecting loads of people to come along.
“There will be a bouncy castle for the kids, tombola, raffles, auctions, we’ve got loads of things in mind to raise as much money as possible for the Bradford Burns Unit,” Jim said.
Jim added that he attended the game in 1985 when the fire broke out.
“I saw things that most people will never see in their lifetime. It was life-changing and it was just awful,” he said.
Wednesday marked the 37th anniversary of when the fire that killed 56 people broke out.
The pub is located at 1 Carr House Lane, HX3 7RB.
