A BRADFORD restaurant missed out on being named Britain’s best Indian takeaway on a new TV show.
The Sweet Centre Restaurant, based on Lumb Lane, Manningham, was one of five restaurants which battled it out for the best Indian title on BBC Two’s ‘Britain’s Top Takeaways’ last night.
Waqar Mughal and Hamayun Arshad, from the Sweet Centre, went up against representatives from four other restaurants for the crown of best UK Indian restaurant.
Each of the five restaurants had to make takeaway dishes which were then rated by members of the public, who ate them at their respective homes.
Mr Mughal was nicknamed Waxi on the show, while assistant chef Mr Arshad was known as Mayo.
In a tight contest, Sweet Centre finished fifth, with a total of 18 points from the judges who tried their food.
The show featured three rounds of takeaway meals to be judged, which saw the Sweet Centre send out a Kashmiri lamb, and a tarka daal in the vegetarian course round. In the final takeaway round, the restaurant sent out chicken and spinach for the judges to try.
The show was one of a 10-part series presented by Radio 2 host Sara Cox and comedian Darren Harriott.
