BRADFORD fundraiser Nazim Ali has smashed his goal of raising £500,000 for those in need both in the city and abroad after successfully completing his 9th Ramadan run.
Nazim is still counting the donations from his latest effort over 10k in Blackpool but is nearing £60,000 from this alone. The money from his Blackpool run will go towards building new homes for the poor in Pakistan.
Speaking about his run, Nazim said: "It was generally a flat course running along the promenade with some hills with the breeze pushing against us the first 5.5km. I did it in a time of 1:01:39 which was my fastest time for a good couple of years so I was really pleased; and the fact I didn't pick up any injuries this time."
Six weeks ago he went on a humanitarian trip to Pakistan where he strained his back, however, he managed to shake this off in time for 10k event. He also covered the race fee and travel and hotel costs in Blackpool out of his own pocket.
"In the process of this latest fundraising I have now single-handedly raised over £500,000 for numerous charitable causes both home and abroad and from the nine Ramadam runs over the past decade I have raised over £350,000 thanks to generous donations from those who have supported me.
"The run was in aid of Nelson-based Hope for Mankind's ‘Sindh, Pakistan New Homes Project’ in which poor families are being moved from makeshift homes made of mud and straw roofed to safe and secure new two-room homes. The homes will include a Masjid and school. Each of the homes being built cost £1,900.
Nazim has worked with Hope for Mankind, which is an experienced registered charity, for one year now and has facilitated 41 water pumps in Sindh for the poor and needy.
Over 24 years of fundraising Nazim has distributed aid to the Turkey/Syria border and to the Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh, Iraqi refugees in Mosul and distributed aid to Malawi, Pakistan and to refugees in France and Belgium. He has project-managed 116 house transformation in Malawi and has funded the building of 63 new two-room homes for Syrian refugees in Northern Syria.
On top of that he collects and donates gifts to the children's wards at Blackburn and Airedale hospitals at Easter, Eid and Christmas.
