A POPULAR cafe in the village of West Marton, near Skipton, has reopened after a major facelift.
Formerly called The Pantry, the cafe on the A59 has reopened as The Kitchen Garden. It is open every day except Mondays, and when not a cafe, on Friday and Saturday evenings from May 6, it will be the Thali Punjabi restaurant.
Cafe owner and cook, Teresa Shuttleworth, who lives in West Marton, is originally from a small village in Pakistan, and has lived in England for 22 years.
She said: “We have just opened our doors after three months of planning, hard work and renovation of the garden, kitchen and the dining room. Since we’ve opened, we have been really busy welcoming our returning as well as plenty of new customers.”
Everything is freshly made - breakfasts, light lunches, and also delicious cakes, made by a baker in the village. Customers can also enjoy afternoon teas, with sandwiches, cakes and scones - and when the weather is kind, they can sit outside in the transformed garden at the back of the cafe.
The Thali weekend restaurant is licensed and is back by popular demand following a successful run as a pop-up venture in December. It will be open on Fridays and Saturdays from 7pm with last orders at 9pm.
“I grew up in a very small rural area in Pakistan where we had no access to fancy spices. I had to use very basic spices picked fresh from my dad’s farm. My food is simple, delicious, healthy and authentic,” said Teresa.
