SOMEONE rang the 999 emergency line...because a water pipe had burst in their home.
West Yorkshire Police's Contact Management Centre shared details of the call to highlight the importance of using 999 for emergency calls only.
The team often tweets some of the more unusual phone calls they receive from the general public.
In its latest example, the team said: "#Not999 - There is nothing Police can do regarding a burst water pipe in your home.”
If a pipe bursts in their home, residents should not call Yorkshire Water, but they should turn off their water at the stop tap outside and contact a WaterSafe approved plumber to come and fix the burst. Internal bursts are for property owners to resolve and Yorkshire Water is only responsible for the pipes up to the boundary of the property.
Previous calls have included someone called 999 to ask them to book some driving lessons for them.
Other examples were a call from someone asking if their bank was open and a dispute over paying a window cleaner.
