A WOMAN who fell to her death from the top of popular beauty spot Malham Cove had suffered mental health issues for 30 years, an inquest at Northallerton heard.
Heather Cameron, 57, had visited the beauty spot in January 2021 to take her life but changed her mind after speaking to members of her church. She revisited the spot a few days later on February 3 where she fell to her death. She was found deceased with multiple injuries at the base of the cove just after midnight on February 4.
Miss Cameron, who lived in Clitheroe, Lancashire, had had psychotic incidents in the past and had also spoken about taking her own life, but told social care staff and family she would not carry it out because of distress it would cause her family.
However, she continued to display deep depression.
She had been receiving social care with daily visits but experienced 'episodes of hopelessness'.
On the day of her death she had taken a taxi journey to Malham Cove. A social worker had raised the alarm with the police when they failed to contact her at her home address. Police found a suicide note in her home.
North Yorkshire coroner Richard Watson recorded a suicide verdict.
