AN accidental ignition and strong winds were the cause of a major barn fire in Silsden on Saturday.
The fire involved three farm buildings on Green Lane, and it saw 15 crews from across West Yorkshire called in to tackle the blaze. At least one of the buildings contained straw.
A spokesperson from the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "This was an accidental ignition due to the location of an open fire and strong winds."
There were reports throughout the afternoon of a number of fire engines and other emergency vehicles heading toward the scene, with lots of smoke visible across the skyline.
Road closures were put in place by police around the area and firefighters tackled the blaze using four large jets.
Fire engines attended from Silsden, Keighley, Otley, Bradford, Cleckheaton, Mirfield, Moortown, Huddersfield, Bingley, Illingworth, Rawdon, Odsal and Stanningley fire stations.
