THE location of a historic monument is still under review following a road traffic accident earlier this year.
The Oakenshaw Cross on Wyke Lane, Oakenshaw, which was already awaiting repairs after it was hit in May last year, was smashed by another HGV in February.
After being struck in February, the monument was carefully removed to be restored and its location is now under review.
A Kirklees Council spokesperson said: “The Oakenshaw Cross was safely removed at the end of March by a number of council services supported by experts within the field of ancient monuments.
“The process took three days to complete and was removed in three parts, with each section inspected prior to being removed from its counterpart. The monument was taken to a secure location to enable a detailed inspection to take place.
“The restoration process is now being evaluated and will take some time before a process and timescale can be formalised.
“Prior to any restoration being undertaken formal approval will be required from statutory heritage bodies as well as council conservation officers to ensure the monument is protected and restored correctly. The location of the monument is still under review.”
