A POPULAR annual event which sees homes in Saltaire open their doors will return in person for the first time in three years.

Saltaire Arts Trail, which will run between Saturday, April 30 and Monday, May 2, will see some of the UK's top artists, makers and designers show off their work around the village.

Following on from the success of the Window Gallery Trail last year and the popular Open Houses, the Open Village will show contemporary artwork in Saltaire’s homes, businesses, creative spaces and windows.

Visitors can explore the village and discover art by both local artists and those selected from across the UK and work by Saltaire resident artists showcasing their own work in their homes. The Open Village also includes two of the area’s newest creative spaces; Wharf St Studios, who’s resident artists will hold open studios for the weekend, and Salts Works, home of the People Powered Press, who are also running drop-in activities and further exhibitions throughout the weekend.

After two years of online events, the Saltaire Makers Fair is back in person in Victoria Hall, with more than 65 exhibitors across three rooms, in a showcase of contemporary art, craft and design for sale or commission. Entry is £2 (under-16s free).

Other highlights include a programme of exhibitions and special events such as My Crazy Family Golf, participative project made by Lisa Watts and her father, Gordon Watts (referred to as ‘Dad’) in the roof space at Salts Mill. Visitors to My Crazy Family Golf will be invited to play five holes of crazy golf, with a handmade golf club and score card to complete.

Also at Salts Mill, Saltaire Arts Trail: Student Showcase will show work by a selected group of emerging artists, currently studying at Bradford School of Art on the BA (Hons) Art & Design and MA in Visual Arts Courses. Further exhibitions throughout the village showcase more talent from Saltaire Art Group, Bingley Camera Club and Saltaire Art School.

Julia Calver, Chair of Saltaire Inspired, said: "We are thrilled to be able to present a full, live programme for Saltaire Arts Trail 2022 this May Day Bank Holiday weekend.

“We are delighted to welcome artists from across the UK to exhibit in the unique spaces of Saltaire, as well as showcasing a wealth of local talent, including emerging artists currently studying in Bradford.

“With over 100 artists taking part in total, Saltaire will be packed with art and creativity, and we hope you will join us".
