A RANGE of organic fruit and vegetables are on offer at a new shop in the Bradford district.
Hedgehog Organics has opened its doors on Main Street in Bingley with a traditional shop set-up and additional delivery service.
It sells a range of goods including organic fruit and vegetables, sourdough bread, toiletries, dairy and gluten free products.
It is co-owned by Ben Oubridge and Maria Bija, who are a couple outside of their business and live in Denholme. The shop opened up to customers for the first time on April 20.
The business is also expanding by offering a veg box delivery service.
It is a welcome boost to retail in Bingley after the town lost its Sainsbury’s Local store, also on Main Street, in February this year.
Mr Oubridge, 49, says it is the first business he has owned and his opening venture has a traditional shop feel with rows of colourful food items on its shelves.
He said: “Bingley feels like a responsive place to what we are trying to do really. I was always looking for something to own for myself.
“I just felt like we have the right audience for it here in Bingley. People seem happy we have opened.
“The first few days have been good. We have had a steady stream of people through.
“We are focusing on the fruit and veg for our business. We are selling wholefoods, cheeses and vegan and non-dairy. We want to do a bit of everything.
“People are receiving the shop very well. It feels like the right place where we are. It is also close to home for us too.
“We’re trying to keep the shop happy and colourful. Our veg box delivery service has locally sourced stuff. We’re hoping that will be a growth area for us.
“You can buy organic stuff in a supermarket in Bingley, but it is fairly highly packaged. Here, you can pop it in a paper bag or bring your own bag. You will only have to get one beetroot, say, from here and you won’t need to buy a pack of something, just to get one of something. That means there is less food waste.”
Hedgehog Organics’ shop on Main Street, Bingley, is open from Tuesday to Saturday between 10am and 5pm every day and on Sundays from 11am to 4pm. The shop will be closed every Monday.
