Lord Mayor visits Britannia Care home

The visit of the lord mayor was just one high point of what has been a busy Easter period at Britannia Care.

While spring brings with it a strong sense of renewal, this time of year also brings with it the opportunity for building spiritual renewal and strength.

Followers of some of the world’s great faiths - Christians, Muslims, Sikhs and Jews - have been celebrating and participating in religious festivals which helps to reconnect them with the spiritual world.

Easter, Ramadan, Passover and Vaisakhi have all been celebrated during April, and at Britannia Care marking these important religious festivals is a part of the Girlington-based, purpose-built care home’s philosophy and ethos in celebrating diversity and delivering a level of care which recognises unity through a shared humanity.

 Mr Choudrhy Inayat Khan, who established Britannia Care over 30 years ago, with diversity and inclusion at the heart of Britannia Care’s philosophy, said: “Here at Britannia Care we have always celebrated and recognised the different faiths and cultures of the residents we care for.

“This year has not been any different and once again I must praise the staff of Britannia Care for providing events and the space for our diverse clientele to, not only celebrate their own religion’s festival, but to enjoy the events around other faiths.

“At Britannia Care we give thanks that we are able to serve and care for people. A big part of that duty of care is to ensure that our residents who wish to celebrate their religious festivals can do so, fully.

“And not just at Easter or Ramadan, at Britannia Care we ensure that all religious occasions are acknowledged and appropriately marked and celebrated. Each year we also celebrate Passover and Vaisakhi, Diwali and Chanukah, too. And of course, Christmas is always a huge event at Britannia Care.”

Mr Choudhry’s son and fellow director, Anis Khan, said: “We have, over 30 years, seen our unique approach evolve and become the cornerstone of our strength and success.

“We are truly proud of the pioneering work we have done in providing care to people from incredibly diverse backgrounds and acknowledging and celebrating the different faiths of our residents is incredibly important to everyone at Britannia Care.

“We believe that we must care and support each other, especially in those times of greatest need.”

Britannia Care is a purpose-built care home, designed and fully equipped to look after the needs of the people they care for – corridors and doors are wide, enabling the smooth passage of those who use a wheelchair or other supportive aids. There is lift access to all floors – again, designed to accommodate wheelchairs and supportive aids used by the residents.

The Britannia Care’s multilingual staff have a long history of providing care to the area’s multicultural community, with 30 years of experience, knowledge and understanding in providing expert care to a diverse clientele.
