Schoolchildren can now get their hands-on cutting-edge technology - thanks to a £300,000 link-up.

Bradford College and regeneration agency Yorkshire Forward have joined forces to launch the World of Wonder (Wow).

The project aims to give secondary school pupils experience of using state-of-the-art gadgets in a bid to boost learning in science, technology, engineering and maths (Stem) subjects.

Equipment - including a motion capturing suite, 3-D film cameras and virtual technology software - is on hand to inspire thanks to the college's Innovative Technologies Centre.

Michele Sutton, Bradford College chief executive, said: "This particular project is specifically designed to engage pupils who are at school and wish to have the opportunity to try out all the new technology we have here.

"It gives them the chance to use state-of-the-art hardware and software and use it to produce a piece of work."

Ruth Adams, head of skills for Yorkshire Forward, said: "Our society today is centred on new technologies such as those within the digital and creative industries and as such it is essential that our region's youth learn to adapt to these in addition to improving their Stem knowledge for their future success."

Pupils at 15 schools in the Bradford district have taken part in taster sessions.

Claire Cassidy, ICT course curriculum leader at Carlton Bolling College, has led two parties of pupils to the unit.

She said: "The feedback we got from pupils was very, very positive. Some of the equipment they were using was very exciting. We wanted to use the visits in particular to motivate boys and they have definitely proved worthwhile."
