A COUPLE from Cottingley have set up an egg hunt running across the Easter weekend to raise money for a cancer charity after a close relative was diagnosed with a rare form of Leukaemia.
Children will be able to collect letters on the Easter trail which will lead them to the Easter bunny's house where they will be given an Easter hamper to enjoy.
Husband and wife, Hayley and Luke Moorhouse will be putting on the event for the second year in a row after Luke's brother was diagnosed with the disease last year.
Hayley, 29 said: "We wanted to do more to raise money for Candlelighters this year who go above and beyond for people in hospital. They do all sorts of family support and activities and things for the person in hospital, and also sibling sessions and arrange things for siblings to do together which is really nice.
"They cover Leeds Children's Hospital and Leeds General Infirmary as well so we thought it was a good one to choose as the money raised will be staying local."
Hayley said that last year the event went 'really well and they had over 200 children, aged from just a few months up to 16 years old from across West Yorkshire come along.
"It was something that was really appreciated by the local community, and we have people even just a couple of weeks after saying to us you've got to do it again next year, and after Christmas and in January people were asking about it so we definitely wanted to do it again," she said.
In total, they raised £1,300 by holding the event, last year and they hope to do the same this year by asking for a £2.50 donation per child.
In addition, other local people are putting on Easter events to raise money for Candlelighters.
An Easter Eggstravaganza will be taking place in Bingley on Good Friday, where there will be an indoor market at Bingley Arts Centre and an outdoor market at Bingley Town Square from 10-4 pm.
The Easter egg hunt is taking place on Saturday, April 16, and bank holiday Monday. To sign up to take part, visit Hayley's business page on Facebook:@BlueDragonDesigns
Hayley said would like to thank all the local businesses that have made donations towards the Easter hampers for the children.
