A MAN aged 59 is to stand trial on August 1 accused of arson at his flat in sheltered accommodation for older people in Bradford.
Shahnawaz Ali appeared yesterday before Bradford Crown Court on a video link to Leeds Prison where he is remanded in custody.
He is accused of committing arson at Hazelhurst Court, Leeds Road, on February 17 by damaging a sofa by fire, intending to destroy or damage property, or being reckless as to whether property would be destroyed or damaged, and being reckless as to whether the life of another would be endangered.
His barrister, Rebecca Young, said he denied the charge.
Judge Colin Burn remanded Ali back into custody until the trial.
