A HEALTHCARE provider has been granted permission for the refurbishment of a listed city centre building.
Bevan Healthcare currently operates out of a building that fronts onto both Piccadilly and Dale Street. The building, which dates back to the 1850s, is both Grade II listed, and lies within a conservation area.
Earlier this year Bevan applied for listed building consent to make alterations to the building, including remodelling the ground and first floor of the Dale Street side of the building, as well as adding new windows on the first floor.
The application said: "(The Dale Street building) currently allows for medical experts to consult with patients, however, out-dated equipment and facilities, over both floors of medical rooms, restrict the building and company from welcoming new patients."
Refurbishment plan for 'underappreciated' listed building can go ahead
The changes will allow the building to "accommodate modern technology, equipment and furniture to welcome new patients."
The social enterprise, which provides healthcare to the homeless, refugees and asylum seekers, says the changes will "significantly improve the existing facilities to provide modern consulting rooms."
Council Conservation officer Jon Ackroyd supported the listed building work, saying: "The proposals do not result in any loss of heritage significance and ensure the building is put to good use and maintained."
Bradford Council has now approved the works, which are expected to take place over the winter.
