A BUILDING in Bradford city centre has become a popular filming location for TV and films, helping to boost its economy by millions of pounds.
The warehouse-style building on Cater Street in Little Germany has attracted top film and TV companies.
Downton Abbey, Emmerdale, Peaky Blinders and ABC Murders are just some of the productions which have used the location for some of its scenes over the years.
The building was used for boxing scenes from BBC One’s Peaky Blinders and as a working office and boardroom featuring main character, Thomas Shelby.
A Hollywood star happily mixed with people at the location, when he starred in ABC Murders, which was filmed at Cater Street.
John Malkovich led an all-star cast as Hercule Poirot, flanked by Rupert Grint as Inspector Crome, in the BBC series, broadcast in 2018 and 2019.
The Downton Abbey film was also shot in Little Germany, as was the first series of BBC TV drama, Gentleman Jack, which returns for a second season this weekend.
The location was also used as the home of a major BBC Two TV series presented by Jay Blades and filmed in Bradford last year.
Jay’s Yorkshire Workshop was filmed inside the site, where members of the public nominate heroes from across Yorkshire to receive a bespoke, handmade piece of wooden furniture to recognise the work they do for their community.
Jay then gave the task of making the items to one of his three experts in the workshop; Ciaran, Isabelle and Saf.
It is one of the locations owned by Pudsey-based Nirmal Sekhon Group, who says the Cater Street site helps boost the Bradford economy.
Ray Brown, legal officer of Nirmal Sekhon Group, says it receives enquiries from production companies for initial tours to see if they too could stage a show or film in there.
He said: “It is a very, very popular location.
“It does bring people to Bradford. We have owned it since the early Noughties.
“The biggest star we have had there was John Malkovich.
“We are constantly getting people round to visit it.
“It’s a building from the 1900s and it has got a basement, first floor and top floor.
In Peaky Blinders it was used as a boxing ring and a car repair shop. The viewing area in the building is massive, which is why cameras like using it
“It helps bring millions of pounds worth of revenue into Bradford.
“Different production companies that use it come along to use it and have their own take on it.”
