Plan to flatten Riddlesden care home to make way for houses is approved

AHA Property Investment submitted plans to redevelop the site of Riddlesden Rest and Convalescent Home last year.

The single storey, 10-bed building, at the junction of Carr Lane and Southfield Avenue, would be flattened and five, two-bed houses built in its place under the proposals.

There would be eight parking spaces for residents and a visitor parking space.

The application had a mixed response, generating 10 objections and 15 letters of support.

Concerns had also been raised by Bradford Council's own highways department, who pointed out that the site was on a difficult junction.

But planning officers approved the development, arguing that traffic to the five homes would be no greater than traffic to the 10-bed care home.

They said: "Whilst acknowledging the highway safety concerns raised, the proposal includes sufficient parking for the new dwellings and traffic generation is likely to remain similar in comparison to the existing care facility.

"The access point although is not ideal, is well established and has been subject to multiple trips to/from the site throughout the course of the care home facility; no records of road traffic accidents have been identified."
