THOUSANDS of vehicles and pedal cycles were stolen in the region last year, police figures have revealed.
The data was issued through a Freedom of Information (FOI) to West Yorkshire Police.
More than 6,500 motor vehicles and pedal cycles were stolen in the period of January to December 2021.
Cars represent the largest proportion of the 4,664 vehicles which were stolen, with 1,726 taken.
Almost 900 vans were stolen, along with nearly 900 motorcycles.
In 581 of cases, there was no linked vehicle and in 397 of thefts recorded, the vehicle type was unknown.
Other vehicles stolen included buses/coaches; plant equipment; trailers; goods vehicles and farm equipment.
The FOI also reveals how many pedal cycles were stolen in the same period, with the number totalling 1,863.
