A Bradford cancer charity is laughing all the way to the bank thanks to a fundraising joke book.

The book was compiled by staff at Yorkshire Water last year to raise money for Bradford Cancer Support's Daisy Appeal.

Thanks to its success and other fundraising events, staff from Yorkshire Water are now ready to hand over £3,235 to the charity which is raising funds to build a new cancer support centre in Smith Lane, Bradford.

The charity was adopted by the legal team at Yorkshire Water in Halifax Road, Bradford, and secretarial assistant Ruth Bell joined forces with fee earner Deborah Stirling to compile the joke book, which raised £1,300.

Other events included a treasure island map game, which raised £170, selling Bradford Cancer Support Christmas cards, which raised £70, a Christmas raffle and stall, which raised almost £400.

Six members of the legal services department also took part in a corporate relay race in May last year, which raised £1,200.

Daisy Appeal co-ordinator Maureen Burns said: "We would like to say a special thankyou to Deborah and Ruth for what we know has been a very worthwhile and enjoyable project."

Ruth and Deborah said: "We are pleased to have raised funds for such a great cause as the Daisy Appeal. We are particularly delighted that we were able to raise much more than we had anticipated we would and glad to have enjoyed a good laugh along the way."
