Rail enthusiasts were given a treat today as two heritage diesel locomotives – with a combined age of over 100 years – passed through West Yorkshire.
A pair of Class 47s could be seen passing Mirfield at either end of a train from Crewe to Doncaster West Yard just after 1pm.
The Class 47s put in decades of reliable service for British Rail and were a built between 1962 and 1968.
Many of the class are still fit to run on the main line and two such examples, green-liveried D1924 'Crewe Diesel Depot' and large logo blue 47593 Galloway Princess, made a fine sight in the sunshine.
A number of railway enthusiasts gathered at Heaton Lodge Junction near Mirfield to watch the train, which was made up of immaculate chocolate and cream coloured carriages.
