Two seriously injured in Addingham Wharfedale Road crash

The collision happened on Addingham Wharfedale Road (A65), near the village of Addingham in the Bradford district, in the early hours of this morning.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service (WYFRS) said they were called at around 12.30am to the crash, which involved two vehicles.

West Yorkshire Police was called to the scene eight minutes earlier, with Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) also there at a similar time.

Crews from fire stations in Keighley, Silsden and Ilkley rushed to the where the crash happened.

Four ambulances, the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART), a critical care paramedic and team leader were all deployed by YAS.

Emergency services found that a small van and a car had collided, when they arrived.

There were five casualties in total and four had managed to escape the vehicles, when firefighters arrived.

But one person, who had suffered serious injuries, was still trapped.

The crews had to get them out by cutting the top of the vehicle off, using hydraulic tools.

The trapped individual was then rushed to hospital by ambulance, as was one of the other casualties who also suffered serious injuries.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said the injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Two other people were also taken to hospital.

Of the four, two went to Leeds General Infirmary (LGI), while the other two were taken to Airedale General Hospital.

Fire crews were there for about an hour and there was a large police presence at the scene, with the road shut for a period of time.

It was reopened just over three hours later, at 3.37am.

Police are continuing to investigate the crash.
