POLICE are carrying out weekly night-time operations in Huddersfield town centre to help keep people who are going to pubs, bars and clubs safe.
The operation, which is taking place every Friday and Saturday night, is aiming to protect people who may be vulnerable due to being intoxicated, and to “nip incidents in the bud” before they escalate.
Officers will also be making stop checks of vehicles in and around the town centre to try and clamp down on drink-driving.
West Yorkshire Police said: “It is great to see people out in the town enjoying the pubs, clubs and restaurants.
“However, it is paramount that we look to ensure everyone's safety, and we will be working with partners from licensed premises to ensure people have a safe and enjoyable time.
“This operation aims to nip incidents in the bud where people may be a little worse the wear, and also to safeguard people who may be vulnerable due to intoxication.
“If you have any information regarding drink-driving or other drink or drug-related issues which may affect the town, then please contact police via 101, online or if it is an ongoing incident, on 101 or 999.”
