Three public consultations are to take place in relation to the provision of healthcare services across the district.

Changes to the district's diabetes services are being proposed, The Ridge Medical Practice wants to relocate to Cross Lane, Bradford, from its current home in Paternoster Lane, and a consultation will centre on the range and nature of healthcare services provided in Addingham.

Bradford and Airedale Teaching Primary Care Trust is running the consultations.

Starting on Friday and running until March 31, patients of The Ridge Medical Practice will have a chance to comment on the proposed relocation.

The practice wants to move to the site of the former Liberal Club on Cross Lane, Bradford. The practice feels its current surgery is inadequate and cites problems with the size of the waiting room which is often over-full and insufficient consulting rooms for the clinical staff.

It also says service development is significantly constrained due to lack of space and it is hampered by the lack of parking space.

The branch surgery in Wibsey will remain unchanged.

National charity Diabetes UK will be working with the trust from Friday until April 30 to make sure diabetes services in the district are fit for purpose.

There are 17 diabetes clinics running in the district supporting those with complex needs. The trust says three-quarters of these patients could be cared for by their own practice team. It is estimated that up to 2,000 diabetes patients could see their care transferred back to their own GP.

Construction on a new surgery behind the Memorial Hall in Main Street, Addingham, is due to start in the spring and should be completed by the end of the year.

It will have three consulting rooms, a trainee's room, a dispensary, treatment and minor surgery rooms and offices. All patients will now be asked about the type of services they would like to see in the new surgery.
