BUSINESSES in Bradford are among the least chatty in the UK, new research has revealed.

The study, by cloud-based business phone system firm CircleLoop, analysed data from thousands of businesses to find which areas love a chat the most.

Bradford, it appears, is all about business with no time for small talk, coming joint second-last on the list.

Combining average call length and the percentage of calls made in the district by businesses, Bradford achieved a 'Chatterbox Matrix' score of just four out of 100.

This was the same as Newcastle-upon-Tyne and second only to Dundee at the bottom of the list of 69 towns and cities, with the Scottish city scoring three.

The study found business calls in Bradford last on average one minute 42 seconds, and business calls account for just one per cent of all calls made in the city.

At the other end of the scale, with a top score of 100, was Watford, where calls last on average one minute 48 seconds and make up 20.5 per cent of all calls in the town.

Elsewhere in West Yorkshire, Huddersfield came sixth on the list with a score of 58, Halifax was 21st with a score of 30, Wakefield scored 22 and Leeds scored nine.

Damian Hanson, co-founder of CircleLoop, said: “The pandemic’s disruption of day-to-day business highlighted the importance of 'anywhere, any time' communication.

"As we emerge from that disruption, our data shows that UK businesses have really embraced cloud-based communications in a way that, pre-Covid, would have been unprecedented."
