HOPES are high for a beer festival in Bingley this weekend after the overwhelming success of a similar event in Shipley.
The Sup Shipley beer festival, in the town's Market Square, saw over 3,000 pints of locally brewed beer consumed.
Held on Saturday, the festival was part of Bradford Council’s Spring Back 2022 campaign aimed at encouraging people to rediscover their local high street.
It’s estimated that over 5,000 people attended the event, the first of the Spring Back 2022 events, with over 1,000 people through the gates in the first two hours.
This Saturday Bingley will host its own Sup beer festival in the town square.
The event will run from noon until 10pm.
For Bingley, Sup has partnered with the Bingley’s Goose Eye Brewery, Wishbone Brewery from Keighley and also Bini Brewery from Ilkley.
Bars taking part are The Triangle from Shipley and The Peacock Bar from Bingley which will also be serving Indian street food. Il Pirata X Mozza Fella will be teaming up to serve pizzas.
An array of local DJs will be playing a mix of upbeat and soulful tunes to keep the crowd going into the evening. The Sup beer festivals have been organised by Raven Staging in collaboration with Bradford Council.
As part of the campaign, Bradford Council also organised for the market squares in both Shipley and Bingley to be jet-washed. Extra litter bins and benches and other street furniture will also be installed. The Council has also commissioned local artists to install colourful and creative artworks across the district.
Councillor Alex Ross Shaw, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Regeneration, Planning and Transport, said: “It’s great to see family and friends getting back together and I’m delighted that we have been able to fund these great events taking place across the district in our towns and villages. I’m especially pleased that local businesses are involved in these events and are able to use them to showcase their offer.”
Gavin Hird from Shipley bar The Triangle, who are featuring at both the Shipley and Bingley events, said: "Sup was a really special day for Shipley. I’ve never seen it so busy. It was great to see so many people having a good time in a safe, relaxed environment. We have so many fantastic local businesses at the moment and a really supportive community so it made for a proper good do. We’re looking forward to a great time again this weekend in Bingley, here’s hoping for a scorcher!"
Adrian from Keighley-based Wishbone Brewery, added: "Wishbone Brewery are excited to be part of the Bingley SUP event, it will be a great boost to the town and is bound to help put Bingley on the Beer-Map.
"It’s great to get all local businesses together for such an event and get people back out in their local areas along with introducing people from further afield to the delights of Bingley.
“We are bringing two Cask beers, Two Lapels American Pale 4 per cent and Common Chord Bitter 4.3 per cent, along with four Keg beers taps and a selection of beers - Rubix Cube Pale Ale 4.5 per cent, Dassler Helles Lager 4.2 per cent, Hop Dust Handcuffs IPA 6 per cent, Chasm 3.8 per cent Session IPA and Greenflute Gluten Free Pale Ale 5 per cent. All our keg tap beers are vegan too."
Other events being held as part of the Spring Back campaign include a witches and wizards event in Haworth on Saturday, a nostalgic look at the high street of yester year at the K-Town Shopper event in Keighley (March 26 and 27), Ilkley Family Takeover (March 26) and Wibsey Fair (March 26).
