DEMOLITION work of a city centre site to make way for a £23 million street market is nearly complete, a councillor has confirmed.
Darley Street Market will be built on the site of the former Marks & Spencer and neighbouring units at the Bradford city centre site.
Much of the building has been demolished, with construction of the market to start this year. It is expected to open in Summer 2023.
A video featuring aerial footage of the site has been released on social media.
Councillor Alex Ross-Shaw, Portfolio Holder for Regeneration, Planning and Transport, tweeted: “We've nearly completed the demolition of the former M&S and Woolworth's on Darley Street, ready to start construction of our fab new market and public square.
“Check out this brief video, with added amazing aerial Bradford shots!”
The city centre’s existing markets, Oastler Market and Kirkgate Market in the Kirkgate Centre, will close once Darley Street Market opens.
The new three-floor building will include non-food stalls on the ground floor, a fresh food floor on the upper ground floor, and a hot food court on the upper floor, with seating for 530 people.
Images of inside the new-look market were released in January this year.
