PLANS to convert former offices off Manningham Lane into seven flats have been approved.

The application will see the three-storey terraced property, in Eldon Place, Manningham, become living space after standing unused for some time.

Layouts on each floor are being revamped with old office partitions and false ceilings removed and replaced with new internal walls, with repairs to the staircase which is described as the "most valuable internal asset" in the Grade-II listed building in Eldon Place Conservation Area.

It's the latest change in Eldon Place, which was previously the "legal hub" of Bradford, but in recent years solicitors firms have left and the area has been blighted by litter problems and rats.

In the basement existing office space will be retained, while the rest of the building will be made up of five one-bedroom flats, one two-bed flat, and one studio apartment in the attic.

In approving the plans, Bradford Council said the change would make "reuse of an existing building" and a "small contribution" to housing needs in the district.

Planning officers said the flats are "of good size" with "good levels of natural light" and would "provide adequate living accommodation", and granted approval to the application.
