FIRE crews in West Yorkshire have donated equipment and kit which will be sent to Ukraine to support firefighters on the frontline.
West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service is sending the items as part of Fire Aid, with thousands of items being sent by services across the UK.
Local crews have contributed 12 pallets worth of fire kit and 12 pallets of hoses, along with an assortment of ladders.
These, along with items from other services, will be sent to Ukraine in a convoy. WYFRS is sending six inflatable boats at a later date.
Operations manager Dave Teggart said: “Our staff and particularly our support teams have worked incredibly hard to pull these donations together.
“Over the last two weeks staff at have been following the Ukraine situation and thinking about the people of Ukraine, and other parts of the world affected by war and conflict.
“We feel a particular bond and affinity with our fellow firefighters who are doing an already dangerous job in the most extraordinary of circumstances - and send good wishes for their safety.
"We stand shoulder to shoulder with them in spirit if not in body. Peace and safety is what we all wish for.
"Until that is achieved we will continue to hold them in our thoughts, and support them where we can.”
The first convoy, which will include three fire engines and one lorry, left on March 11, and a further convoy of two lorries and 15 engines departs on March 19.
